Introducing The Perpetual Nonexpert - Long takes on things I am curious about
Learning, education and DeFi
Welcome to The Perpetual Nonexpert by me, Ryan Chadha.
What is a perpetual nonexpert?
Someone who enjoys learning, but never seems to know enough to be able to think of themselves as an expert. In a testimonial, a friend once referred to me as an experimentalist - and I think that is probably the one word that accurately describes my state of mind these days. The more experiments I make, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I realise how little I know. And when you know very little, but are constantly working towards increasing your pool of knowledge, you become a nonexpert.
It sounds like a word I made up, but it’s not!
The newsletter won’t have a regular frequency, but I can assure you it won’t be very infrequent either! I’ve been writing on Medium since 2014, and while I managed to build a following there, I’ve found that as a medium to build up a community of people who are like-minded, it is not that useful. Medium has become a little like other social media - once you post, it very quickly gets sucked into a blackhole of ads, paywalls and algorithms.
I will aim to post once a month (on average), on a topic that I have either deeply researched or am passionately curious about. My posts will generally be fairly long - 2,000 words or thereabouts. I feel like anything less will not do justice to the topics I am learning about.
If you already know me, you probably know me as a dabbler - I have studied and / or worked in auditing, investment advisory, trading, crypto, education and even dabbled with creating apps and tech products. Some did well, most failed but all of them resulted in wholesome learning. As far as creation on the internet is concerned, one thing is certain:
You either earn or you learn.
It’s an eclectic mix of topics to write about - learning and education one hand and crypto on the other - quite disconnected with each other, but they’re the ones I spend most of my time thinking about and studying, so I hope you’ll find it useful.
I hope you’ll join me on this journey - what a time to be learning!
